Two More Impaired Drivers Charged

(QUINTE WEST, ON) – The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been using Focused Patrols throughout the month of May to help reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads.

Based on the findings of a five year study on impaired driving trends in the City of Quinte West, officers have focused their resources to the areas and times identified as being higher risk. The focused efforts of the Quinte West OPP appear to be working as two more persons were arrested last night for impaired driving.

On Thursday May 12th, 2016, at approximately 9:15pm officers stopped a vehicle on Alberta Street in Trenton. Following a brief investigation with the female driver, Police conducted a road side screening test with the female. The female driver was subsequently arrested at the scene for driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in her blood. The male passenger of the same vehicle was also arrested at the scene for impaired driving. Prior to traffic stop on Alberta Street, officers had observed the male driving the same vehicle on Division Street in Trenton.

Barry Savoy, 37, from Frankford and Jill Judson, 35, of Frankford have both been charged with the following offences:

Driving a motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol.

Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood.

Savoy was additionally charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II substance (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act).

Consuming liquor in other than a licenced premises, residence or private place (Liquor License Act).

The male and female were released from custody on a Promise to Appear with a court date on May 26th, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.

The Quinte West OPP Focused Patrols on impaired driving will continue from May 1st to May 31st. The Quinte West OPP reminds you to always drive safe and sober!
