Drunk Driver Hits Pedestrian

On Wednesday May 8^th, 2024, at 3:40 p.m., the Owen Sound Police Service responded to a collision near 4^th Avenue West and 16^th Street West in Owen Sound.  It was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene.

Emergency Services attended, including Grey County Paramedics, who transported the 14 year old pedestrian to Brightshores Health System for treatment of injuries. 

Police investigation led Officers to a West side residential area where the involved driver and vehicle were located.   The 47 year old female driver was found to be impaired by alcohol and arrested by Police. 

After providing samples of her breath into an approved Intoxilyzer instrument, the results showed that the blood alcohol levels of the driver were more than 3 times the legal limit.  The accused woman from Owen Sound has been charged with Operation while Impaired, Operating with Over 80mg of Alcohol, Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm and Failing to Stop After Accident contrary to the Criminal Code.  The accused is to appear in court to answer to the charges on May, 23^rd, 2024, in Owen Sound.

This incident is one of many recent serious vehicle collisions in the Owen Sound and Grey Bruce areas.  As the warmer weather approaches Police are reminding citizens to please slow down, be attentive and do not drink/drug and drive.
