Two Males Rescued From Lake Erie

(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County Detachment investigated after receiving a report of two male boaters in distress who were out in Lake Erie off the shore of Port Maitland, Ontario.

On Thursday October 20, 2016 at approximately 2:47 p.m., OPP responded to a boater in distress call. The boater had called 911 from his cell phone reporting that the boat was taking on water. OPP remained in contact with the boater to determine his location.

OPP contacted the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) who responded with their rescue vessel. JRCC maintained contact with the boater.

At 4:12 p.m., JRCC located the two males and the boat in Lake Erie.

Neither the 47-year-old or 38-year-old males required any medical treatment. Most of the 57 foot boat was submerged in the water.

“Life jackets, and a cell phone to contact rescuers, helped prevent this incident from resulting in a different outcome” – Constable Rod LeClair, Haldimand County OPP.
