Repeat Drunk Driver Pulls Out In Front Of Owen Sound Police Cruiser – 2.5X Legal Limit

On Saturday May 14 th at approximately 9:20 in the evening an Owen Sound Police Officer was east bound in her police vehicle in the 600 block of 10 th Street West when a pickup truck pulled out in front. The driver of the 2016 rented pickup pulled slowly out from a private drive crossed three lanes of traffic into the path of the approaching cruiser.

Fortunately the officer was able to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Further investigation of the 32 year old Wasaga Beach driver resulted in his arrest at the road side after failing a screening device which checks the concentration of alcohol in ones blood by way of a breath sample at the road side.

Samples of the driver’s breath were then taken by an Intoxlyizer/Breath Technician on an approved instrument at the Owen Sound Police Service. The readings showed that the driver had more than 2 and 1/2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system. The stipulated legal limit being 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The accused now faces a criminal court date for the charge of exceeding the allowed legal limit. As well, his driver’s licence has automatically been suspended of a period of 90 days and the vehicle he was driving impounded for 7 days.

Unfortunately, this individual knows firsthand the punishment for drinking and driving. He had not learned his lesson after a previous criminal conviction in 2012 in Collingwood, Ontario for the same thing. Not only did this driver risk his safety and that of others on the roadway, he risked the safety of 3 individuals that were in the vehicle with him, two which were young children.
