Life Jackets Save Two More Lives

(TINY TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 24, 2016 at approximately 8:20 p.m. members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call of a male yelling for help from the waters of Georgian Bay in the area of Tiny Beaches Road South in Tiny Township. Nearby residents were able to assist this male to shore in their boat.

Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), OPP Marine Unit were called to the scene to search for a female who was also in the water. The female was located a short time later by residents in their personal boat approximately 2 kilometers from shore off Tiny Beaches Road South Tiny Township. JRCC and OPP marine were called off prior to their arrival.

The male and female were operating a Sea-Doo earlier off the shores of Wasaga Beach when they fell off and the Sea-Doo continued away from them. The two were wearing their personal floatation devices which kept them upright in the water for approximately 3 hours before help arrived.

There is no doubt that if these victims had not been wearing their life jackets that the outcome would have been much different. Life jackets save lives and this situation supports the importance of life jackets.

The OPP would like to thank the citizens who assisted in this happy ending. The male and female did not require medical attention as result of the incident.
