Impaired Driver Arrested In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a 38-year-old female with Having Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired following a call to police on October 31, 2015. At approximately 5:18 p.m. Huron OPP officers received a call from an employee of a South Street business reporting he was attempting to stop a suspected impaired driver from leaving the business.

An OPP officer was nearby and was able to arrive on scene prior to the driver leaving the parking lot. The officer located the driver in the driver’s seat of her Pontiac Sunfire with the engine running. Upon speaking with the driver, the investigating officer observed several signs that the driver was impaired by drug. The driver was arrested for Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired. She was then given a demand to submit to a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE).

The driver was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where an evaluation on the driver’s impairment was completed by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). The evaluation was completed and it was deemed the driver’s ability to drive a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.

As a result, Maria CRABTREE, 38 years of age from Goderich has been charged with Care or Control While Impaired. She has been released from custody with a court date scheduled for December 14, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
