Drunk Driver With Loaded Shotgun Arrested On Halloween Night

(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 55-year-old novice driver from Plympton-Wyoming has been charged by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with several charges following a traffic stop that took place on Halloween night. At approximately 8:40 p.m. a Huron OPP officer observed a Ford F-150 pickup truck stopped on the shoulder of Gore Road at the intersection of Nile Road. A traffic stop was initiated to check on the driver’s condition.

While speaking with the male driver the officer noted the driver had been consuming alcohol. In addition, the officer spotted open alcohol inside the vehicle. A demand for the roadside screening device was given and the driver provided a sample of his breath. His test resulted in a fail.

The driver was placed under arrest and subsequently searched. Upon searching the vehicle the investigating officer located open alcohol and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun. Upon searching the driver the officer found the male to also be in possession of a schedule I substance (Codeine). He was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath to the Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his tests registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 55-year-old Randy BATES from Plympton-Wyoming has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Possession of a Firearm & Ammunition contrary to Probation Order, Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Codeine), Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Above Zero and Have Care or Control of a Motor Vehicle with Unsealed Container of Liquor. He remains in custody with a Bail court appearance schedule for November 2, 2015 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
