Almaguin Highlands Report

(PERRY TWP, ON) – On Saturday October 29, 2016 at approximately 6:00 p.m. the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the North East Region Technical and Traffic Collision Investigators (TTIC) investigated a motor vehicle collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

The collision occurred on Savage Settlement Road when the driver, a 27 year old male of Wasaga Beach struck a tree. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision.

Safety is important when travelling on ATV’S. Here are some safety tips to help ensure a safe trip. Always remember to have equipment which includes; proper clothing, a helmet that meets the minimum safety requirements and fits properly. Always carry a first aid kit, an emergency tool kit, a survival kit that includes flares and a cell phone. Let someone know where you are travelling to and when you plan on returning.

WINTER DRIVING SAFETY TIPS

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) – It’s that time of year again and the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind drivers to be safe this winter on the highway.

Here are some safety tips to help keep you safe on the road this winter

• Vehicle maintenance is important. Make sure you have winter tires on your vehicle before the snow comes and always carry an ice scraper and washer

• Plan your trip and always check the weather before you leave for your destination. 5-1-1 is a number to call to check road conditions in the Province.

• Have emergency supplies with you, a charged cell phone, non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, blanket, warm clothes, jumper cables and a shovel.

• Many winter collisions occur because drivers are going too fast for road conditions. Slow down and allow extra space between you and other vehicles.

• Drive slowly near working snowplows and don’t pass them, it’s dangerous.

• Always let someone know where you are going and when you expect to arrive at your destination.

Be safe this winter, be prepared!
