Uber Driver Carjacked By 18 Year Old Impaired Male

On October 20, 2016, at 10:55 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in a parking lot in Uptown Waterloo, near King Street North and Spring Street. The male driver had parked his Uber vehicle and was approached by a male who pushed him out of the way and stole his vehicle. The suspect drove out of the parking lot in a dangerous manner and crashed into a hydro poll a few blocks away, near Erb Street and Regina Street. Officers arrived on scene shortly after and arrested an 18-year-old man. He has been charged with robbery, dangerous driving and Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was taken to Grand River Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained from the crash. The Uber driver was un-harmed.
