Thailand Sends In Army To Silence The Media

On Wednesday, Abhisit’s government declared a state of emergency, allowing it to impose curfews, ban public gatherings, censor media and detain suspects without charge for 30 days.

After the Thai Government sent in the army to silence the media, 12,000 protestors in Red Shirts show up at the satellite tv station and clash with Army troops that were firing tear gas and rubber bullets. The Red Shirts kicked back tear gas canisters and regained control of their media, but only for a few hours.

Al Jazeera reports 92 injuries from these clashes. Both sides seem resolute to avoid the violence and death seen in Kyrgyzstan.

The Red Shirt protestors are wanting a democratic election, and the current government doesn’t.

This is a result of what happens when civil servants, politicians and councilmen forget who they are supposed to be serving. They are paid by the people and are employees of the people. If the majority of the people want change, then change should happen. What stifles change is politicians and councilmen worried about losing their power, so they stall and delay until nothing happens and the populace grows irate.
