Alert – Mail Scam

(KINCARDINE, ON.) – The South Bruce OPP are warning the public of a mail scam after a resident of Walkerton received a suspicious letter on March 31st, 2010. The envelope was postmarked in Portugal and the return address is a Barrister’s office in Spain. The letter is written on behalf of a family member that lived in Spain for a few years before dying in the Tsunami tragedy of 2004. A sum of $10.8 million dollars was left unclaimed and the author suggests the money be divided between the recipient and the barrister. The Walkerton resident has no relatives that lived in Spain, so no reply was sent back. The South Bruce OPP are sending a reminder, “if something seems too good to be true, it likely is”.

Anyone having information that can assist Police with investigations is asked to call South Bruce OPP at 519-396-3341 (Kincardine), 519-881-3130 (Walkerton) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222 -TIPS (8477). OPP Dispatch – 1-888-310-1122
