Speeding Driver Arrested for Impaired Driving

(PETERBOROUGH COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were active across Peterborough County initiating R.I.D.E. programs in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our roadways.

Since the Festive R.I.D.E. launch on November 21, 2016, the Peterborough OPP have conducted 156 spot checks, issued 8 warn range licence suspensions and charged 7 people with Criminal Code Driving Offences related to alcohol consumption.

Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding shortly after 1:00am early Saturday morning. The male diver was found to have been drinking.

Richard BULL (age 65) of Campbellford, Ontario was arrested at the scene and charged with:

Impaired driving

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough. Ontario on February 02, 2017.

Police stopped a vehicle for a validation sticker infraction on Sunday evening shortly before 9:30pm. The male driver was found to have been drinking.

Gerrard ROQUE (age 51) of Capreol, Ontario was arrested at the scene and charged with:

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

Drive with no currently validated permit

Owner operate a vehicle with no insurance

The Peterborough OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol use a designated driver, utilized a cab or public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

The OPP are committed to highway safety and will continue to continue to take enforcement action against impaired drivers. RIDE programs will continue to be utilized as a tool for officers all year.
