Perth OPP Enforce Law Entire Weekend! Numerous Charges Laid

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – This past weekend from Friday April 29th until Sunday May 1st Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in addition to their regular traffic enforcement also concentrated on vehicle operators who failed to “stop and look” at intersections and other unusual driving behaviours.

-Shortly after the noon hour on Friday April 29th a driver was stopped for driving through an amber light in Mitchell. The 31-year-old female driver from the Municipality of West Perth was found to be driving without insurance and driving while under suspension. She was summonsed to court for those three offences.

-On Saturday April 30th around 2 a.m. a motor vehicle was stopped for driving through the stop sign at Perth Line 32 and Perth Road 130. The 28-year-old female driver from London was charged for failing to stop and for not having a current validation tag on her licence plate. She was also summonsed to court for driving while under suspension.

-On Saturday April 30th shortly after 8 a.m. a GMC Terrain was pulled over on Perth Road 135 north of Sebringville for unnecessary slow driving. The 33-year-old male driver from Ingersoll was found to be in possession of a schedule II substance-Cannabis Marihuana – Under 30 grams. Drug paraphernalia was seized and the male was released on an Appearance Notice for Criminal Court on May 30, 2016 in Stratford.

-On Saturday around 1 a.m., a motor vehicle was stopped on Emily Street in St.Marys. The 46-year-old male driver from St.Marys was found to be under suspension. The male was summonsed to court for this offence.

-On Saturday April 30th shortly after 1 p.m. a car was stopped for disobeying the stop sign at Winstanley Street and Schade St. in Monkton. The 38-year-old female driver was charged for this offence, while the 38-year-old male passenger was charged under the “Smoke-Free Ontario Act” with having a lighted tobacco in a motor vehicle while another person less than 16 years old is present. The occupants of the motor vehicle were all residents of the Municipality of North Perth.

-Officers while conducting a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) program on Perth Line 72 east of Donegal between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday April 30th checked 100 motor vehicles. They charged 5 vehicle occupants with Liquor Licence Act violations, seven Highway Traffic Act warnings were issued and one roadside breath test was administered.

-On Saturday April 30th around 3:30 p.m. a motorist was pulled over on Perth Line 20 near St.Pauls. The 39-year-old male from Woodstock was found to be driving while suspended and without insurance. He was summonsed to Stratford Court for the offences.

-On Sunday May 1st around 3:30 p.m. a car was pulled over on Perth Line 86 east of Listowel for “racing”. The vehicle speed was locked in at 132 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The 18-year-old male from the Township of Perth East was summonsed to Stratford Court. His car was impounded for a week and his driver’s licence was seized. It has been suspended for a period of seven days.

All of the above drivers were not taking the responsible task of driving seriously. They are now facing the consequences of their actions by paying fines, having to attend court, and in some cases losing their driving privileges or their motor vehicle.
