(OXFORD COUNTY, ON.) – Members of the Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.), the Highway Safety Division and the O.P.P. Aircraft Enforcement Unit conducted aerial surveillance for speed enforcement on Highway 401 in Oxford County this weekend.

The 3-day co-coordinated initiative resulted in 128 charges being laid, with the maximum speed of 149 kilometres per hour (km/hr).

Those persons caught speeding 50 km/hr or greater can expect the following consequences under current Ontario legislation.

Administrative Licence Suspension at roadside for 7 days.

7-day vehicle impoundment at owner’s expense.

Minimum fine of $2,000.00 – $10,000.00.

The Aircraft Enforcement Program is an excellent example of coupling state-of-the-art technology with the principles of the Provincial Traffic Safety Program, for the purpose of saving lives. The OPP Aircraft Enforcement Program has been operational since May 2008 and continues to play a significant role in keeping Ontario’s roads safe.

O.P.P. would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
