Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 188 incidents during this period, here are some examples:

Oct 17:

A resident on Baldwin St in Brighton reported his unlocked car rummaged through and items taken. A 21 speed blue, red and white mountain bike was left in his driveway. Police are attempting to locate the owner of the bike.

An unplated black 1997 Honda CRV was reported stolen from a Jamieson Rd residence in Port Hope sometime in the past three days. The car was recovered in a corn field on the same road two days later. Investigation ongoing.

A Cramahe Twp landlord requested police stand by and keep the peace while he returned rent money to an ex-tenant and obtained the keys.

Oct 18:

At 7:38am a black Ford Explorer was stopped in Hastings. The driver, a 43 yr old Seymour Twp man, was found to be driving while under suspension. He was charged accordingly and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

A resident on Thompson Cr in Brighton reported his unlocked car rummaged through, nothing taken.

A Campbellford resident reported receiving a call from a ‘court official’ notifying her that her daughter had been arrested in Quebec and required bail money. She was instructed to wire money to an account which she did. She received a second call the next day requesting more money and complied. The victim wired a total of $2,500 before calling her daughter at home who verified that she was not in trouble. Report of erratic driving at 8:37pm on Hwy 401 westbound In Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resulted in the driver of a red Pontiac Fiero being arrested and charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. Robert GUITARD age 48 of Courtice, Ontario was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Cobourg on November 16, 2016.

Oct 19:

A Port Hope resident on Mill St reported a suspicious black Ford pickup truck in her driveway approx. 30min earlier. When officers arrived, the truck was no longer in the area.

Police were contacted by a Port Hope hotel advising that a guest was requesting assistance with his mental health issues. Officers attended and contacted EMS who transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A resident on Maplewood Av in Brighton reported a suspicious man breaking into cars at 9:42pm. He was described as in his late 40’s, 6 0”, wearing a cammo jacket and hunting hat carrying a black backpack. The area was patrolled extensively but the suspect was not located.

Oct 20:

Police attended a Brighton home in response to a resident threatening self-harm with a knife. Officers apprehended him without incident and transported him to a nearby hospital for assessment. He was later escorted by police to a treatment facility for further help.

Officers responded to a business alarm at 4:42am on Dale Rd in Hamilton Twp. When police arrived they spoke to a delivery driver who apparently caused the false alarm.

Police responded to a disturbance at a Trent Hills home resulting in one resident being apprehended and taken to an area hospital for treatment for his mental health issues.

**Northumberland OPP officers also investigated seven accidental 911 calls, 19 motor vehicle collisions and 26 traffic related complaints during this time period.
