Mark McWHA – Drunk Driving

(SUDBURY, ON)- On December 6, 2016, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle being operated erratically westbound on Highway 17, in the City of Greater Sudbury.

Officers patrolled the area and observed the suspect vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17, in Coniston. Police initiated a traffic stop and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.

As a result of the investigation, Mark McWHA, 62 years of age, from North Bay, was arrested and charged with the following:

Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, contrary to section 249(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days

The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on January 25, 2017 to answer to his charges.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
