Horse Manure and Gavel Of Oppression

At the meeting last night, several people mentioned the horse manure that is being left on our streets in Wingham. The first person that complained, was pretty much blown off by Council. Then another person brought the issue up again. Each time someone brought up the issue, Council seemed to pay more attention.

One Gallery member stated horse manure was a hazard for motorcyclists. Someone else mentioned that horses could be outfitted with bags to catch the horse manure. One person said “You can’t leave mud on the road, so why can they leave horse manure?” About 1/2 a dozen people addressed Council on this issue.

Council has agreed to have a meeting with the surrounding communities, which come to our town via horse and buggy. Hopefully Council will be able to convince them to clean up after their horses, or create a bylaw demanding they do, or face a fine.

Vincent’s gavel of oppression remained holstered all evening, and the public was allowed to ask questions freely. The meeting was the least adversarial one to date, likely because the public was shown some respect, and they finally felt like they were being heard.
