Drunk Driver Downs Power Lines In St.Marys – Name Released

(ST.MARYS, ON) – On Friday April 29, 2016, shortly before 2:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision on James Street south involving a pickup truck.

Investigation revealed that an older model Dodge pickup truck had been driving north bound on James Street South, when it crossed the south bound lane, struck a hydro pole and came to rest against a fence. The St.Marys Fire Department and Festival Hydro attended to deal with the downed hydro lines. The male driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired driving and was taken to the Perth County OPP Detachment where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests.

46-year-old Robert P. BRENNER of St.Marys has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences: “driving while ability impaired-motor vehicle”, and “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”. He has also been charged with the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario offence of “careless driving”. He was released on a Promise to Appear and is to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on May 30, 2016, to answer to these charges.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his pickup truck was impounded for a week as per statue.
