Drug Charges After Racer Stopped

(BRIGHTON, ON) –On January 30, 2016 at 2:44am an officer from the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar enforcement on Highway 401 when he measured a 2016 Nissan SUV to be traveling 152 km/h in the westbound lanes.

The vehicle was stopped and evidence of illegal drug use by the six occupants became apparent. The driver and his five passengers were subsequently arrested for drug offences and taken to the Brighton detachment for processing.

The following passengers have been charged with the noted offence:

Marcus OPOKU-WARE age 22 of Toronto, ON

Shacquille WILSON age 21 of Toronto, ON

Darren CLARKE age 21 of Etobicoke, ON

Nathaniel BARTLEY age 22 of Etobicoke, ON

All are charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30g

Andrew JATO age 21 of Belleville, ON (driver)

Is charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30g, driving while his licence is under suspension and Stunt Driving – excessive speed.

Ahmed SAID-AHMED age 28 of Kitchener, ON (vehicle owner, passenger)

Is charged with Possession of a Schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana – under 30g and Permitting an unlicenced driver to drive motor vehicle.

The vehicle was towed from the highway and impounded for a seven day period. The driver also faces a further licence suspension for the same period of time.

All six males were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on March 2, 2016.
