Council To Ignore Mass Public Input – Moving Forward With Vote By Mail

Despite mass opposition to spending more tax money on an alternate
voting system, Archie MacGowan and Gary Long are pushing for
it.  Reeve Vincent stated 100% of the people he talked to wants
the status quo when it comes to voting.  So in typical North
Huron fashion, they are going to spend more staff hours pursuing
this, and the taxpayers will be on the hook for a more expensive
election.  Council is still ignoring public input, and will do
as they please.  Council even had a discussion on why they
think there was a low voter turnout in the last election, and the
Reeve stated people don’t think their input matters.
Apparently contacting the Reeve has ZERO impact, and not worth the
time Citizens take out of their day to participate in our
Democracy.  Council pretends to want public input, but when
they get it, it is ignored or rudely dismissed in chambers.

A reporter from the Blyth Citizen questioned if voting by mail was
really much more convenient for voters, as they would have to pick
up and drop off their ballots at the post office.  The proposed
polling stations are next to the existing post offices, only saving
voters a few steps.  Some have accused current CAO Gary Long of
just wanting to pad his resume for when he is looking for work after
the 27Oct2014 election, and possibly believes that adding Alternate
Voting System” to his resume will help him find employment.
