CIVIC HOLIDAY LONG WEEKEND RESULTS – Norfolk County

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment was kept busy over this past long weekend responding to a variety of incidents.

Officers dealt with 300 calls for service over the Civic Holiday Long Weekend, which included break and enters, thefts, assaults, motor vehicle collisions with no life threatening injuries, Liquor Licence Act offences, domestic / family disputes and a variety of other calls.

The OPP also conducted traffic enforcement ensuring road safety throughout Norfolk County. The following is a list of some of the offences that the officers issued charges for.

82 Speeding Charges

2 Distracted Driving Charges

(3) 3 Day Suspensions

4 Stunt Driving Charges

17 Liquor Licence Act Charges

1 Municipal By-Law Charge

1 Drug Charge

The Norfolk County OPP Marine Unit was vigilant on area waterways ensuring boating enthusiasts were wearing life jackets or personal floatation devices. Police were also checking to ensure operators were qualified and had all the required safety equipment on board their vessels. Several charges were laid for operators who failed to have their boating licence and emergency equipment.

The OPP patrolled area trails on ATV’s and issued several charges under the Liquor Licence Act. Through the course of patrolling the trails everyone was found to be enjoying themselves in a safe and responsible manner.

We responded to higher than average calls for service over the course of the Civic Holiday long weekend. I would like to thank all residents and visitors that attended Norfolk County and enjoyed our highways
