Brantford Crime Briefs – 20Jan2016

On January 19, 2016 the Brantford Police Service issued a media release regarding a suspicious male who had approached an 8 year old girl at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex on January 17, 2016. As part of this earlier release, police included a photo of a male and a vehicle who investigators were interested in identifying and speaking with.

Shortly after the article was published on a local media website, the male in the photograph contacted police. This male was fully cooperative with investigators and provided whatever assistance possible.

This male and the Dodge vehicle were cleared from having any involvement in the incident.

Police are continuing to investigate the original complaint, and encourage anyone with information regarding this incident, or who have had a similar experience to come forward.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed or had a similar experience to please come forward and speak with them. We encourage parents and caregivers to speak with their children on a regular basis regarding personal safety. Instill in them what to do if they feel they are in danger or feel someone ‘was odd or suspicious’. Keep lines of communication open and if you’re ever unsure if you should report an incident to the police, please don’t hesitate, error on the side of caution and call the police.
