Almaguin Highlands Report

(BURK’S FALLS, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of a Hewitt Packard laptop computer that was taken from a vehicle on Ontario Street in the Village of Burk’s Falls.

Sometime on Monday October 3, 2016 unknown person(s) entered the unlocked vehicle and stole the computer. Police are continuing to investigate and any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

OPP would also like to remind everyone of the importance of locking your vehicle doors at all time and to keep valuables out of sight if they are left in the vehicle.

OPP ARREST SOUTH RIVER MAN FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) – The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling the Village of South River on Sunday October 16, 2016 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Officers observed a motorcycle on Ottawa Avenue and followed the vehicle, attempting to stop the driver. The driver continued at a high rate of speed in the Village and eventually stopped on Dublin Street.

Officers spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested and charged the driver, Robert BOLTON, 32 of South River Ontario with the following offences:

• Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

• Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) CC

• Flight while pursued by police officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) CC

• Operate a motor vehicle without insurance, contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)

• Fail to apply for permit on becoming owner, contrary to section 11(2) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

• Driver fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 33(1) HTA

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday November 24, 2016 in Sundridge Ontario
