Alert: PedEx Lottery Scam – Photos Released

(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) –On February 26, 2016, the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a fraud attempt in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

Residents found a suspicious envelope in their mail box. Upon opening the package they learned they were the winners of over 3 million dollars! The package included a signed and certified letter from the Director Geoffrey McMillen. The outer package was similar to a Fed Ex Envelope but stated it was from “Ped Ex.”

The information contained within the letter explained they were a third party company hired to contact the winners. The stipulation required the winners to initial and sign the Grant Claim Form and send $25 in cash, cheque or money order. The waiver stated the company was not responsible for the outcome and by sending a cheque you authorize additional funds; including a handling fee to be withdrawn from your account.

The Bruce Peninsula OPP is requesting to public to spread the word to family and friends to protect them from getting caught by the multiple frauds that continue to target residents.

Contact police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) at www.antifraudcentre.ca or toll free 1-888-495-8501 if you believe you are a victim of a fraud.
