67 Vehicles Stolen In North Perth

(NORTH PERTH)- The Municipality of North Perth, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and Trillium Mutual Insurance have joined resources to help reduce auto thefts in the area.

In 2016, Perth County OPP responded to 67 separate incidents of auto theft and recovered stolen motor vehicles in the Municipality of North Perth. Police spent over 800 hours investigating these incidents. Over 95% of stolen vehicles had the keys left in them when they were taken. An additional 563 hours was spent by police investigating other thefts in the Municipality of North Perth.

The Municipality of North Perth, Perth County OPP, and Trillium Mutual Insurance strongly believe that victim action and community awareness on the widespread consequences of preventable auto theft is key to solving the problem.

With over 135 years of insurance knowledge protecting and enhancing farm and community lifestyles across Ontario, Trillium directly sees the cost associated with auto thefts in the area.

Through its contract with the OPP to provide police services for the municipality, rising policing costs resulting from increased auto theft calls directly affects North Perth’s Municipal tax levy.

As taxpayers and insurance consumers, we are all victims of auto theft whether or not our vehicle has been stolen. Victims hold the most power to decrease the prevalence of preventable auto theft and the associated financial consequences.

Help reduce preventable auto theft by:

locking your vehicle doors, closing windows, and removing keys;

watching your neighbourhood and reporting any unusual activity to the police;

reporting all theft and vehicle break-ins, no matter how big or how small; and

educating those around you on how they can help stop preventable crime.

By partnering with the Perth County OPP and Trillium Mutual Insurance on this crime prevention initiative
