11 Day Old Infant Unscathed In Rolled Vehicle – Mother Charged With Careless Driving

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Monday March 29, 2010 at 1:15 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle collision on Line 32 south west of Mitchell.

The crash involved a newer model GMC Sierra extended cab pickup truck, which had been driving west bound on Line 32. The vehicle veered from the travelled portion of the road into the north ditch, continued west and was steered back onto the road, crossed towards the south shoulder, was over-steered towards the west bound lane and entered the north ditch where it rolled.

The driver was able to get herself and the 11 day old infant passenger out of the wreck prior to arrival of emergency personnel. The driver sustained minor injuries while the infant appeared unhurt. Both occupants were transported to Stratford General Hospital for treatment and precautionary examination.

Due to the use of a properly installed car seat, the infant in the seat appeared to have sustained no injuries. The vehicle was destroyed as a result of the crash.

The 28 year old female driver from Brucefield has been charged with careless driving.
Road conditions were good at the time of the crash.
