Drunk Driver Facing Hit & Run Charge

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a Goderich resident with Impaired driving offences following a collision investigation on October 29th, 2023. 

At approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, October 29th, Huron County OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle that had collided with another vehicle on the Goderich Courthouse Square. The involved driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and was later located and stopped on Wellington Street. Police spoke the driver and made a demand for their breath sample using the roadside screening device which resulted in a failure. The investigating officer subsequently arrested the driver for Impaired Operation.

The accused then provided further breath samples before a qualified Intoxilyzer Breath Technician at the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton. Suitable breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.

William CRAIG, 74 years of age from Goderich has been charged with:

–      Operation while Impaired – Over 80,

–      Fail to Stop After Accident.

The accused was additionally charged with offences found in the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA), and Liquor Licence Control Act (LLCA).

The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused’ driver’s license was suspended for a period of 90 days.

The accused was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for December 4th, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
