West Grey Police Press Release 17Dec – 30Dec2017

Between the 17th of December and the 30th of December 2017, The West Grey Police Service responded to 157 calls for service.

By-Law

Please remember that street parking is prohibited between the hours of midnight and 07:00am from November 15th to April 15th. Parking on the roadways during these hours may result in being towed or ticketed should the vehicle be impeding snow removal. Further, please be patient when driving behind our Snow Plow Operators and only pass if safe to do so.

Motor vehicle collisions

Residents of West Grey are being reminded to drive according to their abilities and to road conditions. Thirty-four motor vehicle collisions have been reported in the past fifteen days resulting in multiple charges. Drivers are also reminded that it is their duty to report to the Police as soon as practicable, any collision that appears to have $2,000 or more in total damage.

Theft, Assault with a Weapon

On the 30th day of December, 2017, Police were called to attend a local store where a man had been struck in the head with a glass bottle after attempting to stop a thief. The thief was arrested shortly after being found intoxicated and walking up the roadway. The local man was charged with one count of Theft under $5000, one count of being in possession of stolen property and one count of Assault with a Weapon. The male is set to appear at the Walkerton Courthouse to answer to the charges.

Festive R.I.D.E season

During this holiday season, Police across the province have set out to reduce impaired driving everywhere in Ontario. The West Grey Police Service recommends that you plan your way home ahead of time. West Grey Police will be conducting RIDE programs across the community and have the technology and skills to test for Impairment by drugs and alcohol.
