Special Weather Statement For Wingham and Blyth – 15cm Of Snow Possible

4:53 AM EDT Wednesday 06 April 2016

Special weather statement in effect for:

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

A low pressure system from the west is expected to bring a significant April snowfall to the area beginning this morning then continuing into late afternoon or early evening. Snow is expected to be heavy at times in some areas. Current indications suggest possible snowfall accumulation of 5 to 10 cm by this evening.

The snow is expected to change over to a few millimetres of rain this evening as a warm front from the low moves through, introducing milder air and making temperatures rise a few degrees above freezing.

There is still some uncertainty regarding the exact location of the heaviest snow. Environment Canada will continue to closely monitor this developing situation and warnings may be issued as the details become more certain. Snowfall warnings are in effect from near Parry Sound northward into Northeastern Ontario where snowfall amounts of 15 cm or more are expected.

Driving conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly after the snow arrives. Motorists should be prepared for a return to hazardous winter driving conditions from accumulating snow and low visibility in heavy snow and adjust travel plans accordingly.
