Shane Christopher FLEMING – Drunk Driving

(CALEDON, ON) – On Thursday, May 19, 2016 at approximately 3:28 pm, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was proceeding through the intersection of Mountainview Road and Walker W when the officer’s police vehicle was nearly struck by a gray Chevrolet pick-up truck. Although the pick-up did not strike the police officer’s vehicle, the Chevrolet did strike a vehicle that was also travelling in the vicinity of the intersection.

Upon investigation, the officer determined that the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of alcohol and arrested the operator of the Chevrolet accordingly.

As a result, Shane Christopher FLEMING, 28, of Everett was charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada: Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol) and Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

The 90-day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on June 2, 2016.

Given the time of this offence, members of the Caledon Detachment of the OPP would like to remind motorists that Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs are conducted throughout the day and evening on any given day because impaired driving knows no boundaries.

Over the May long weekend, the OPP laid almost twice the amount of impaired driving charges within Ontario in comparison to the previous year – 180 to 94. This is a major concern for officers across the province. What will it take for people to comprehend the message that drinking and driving is unacceptable and that it places innocent persons at risk for injury or death by those who choose to commit this illegal act? For you and for us, please drive safe and drive sober!
