Racers Caught In Perth

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – With the current unseasonably warm weather and ideal driving conditions, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has noticed an increasing number of motorists taking risks by driving well above the posted speed limits.

On Saturday October 31, 2015, shortly before 3 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting traffic enforcement along Perth Line 33 south of Shakespeare. The officer observed a fast moving black car travelling east bound on Perth Line 33. The speed of the car was locked in on radar at 146 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The car was pulled over and the female driver, 26-year-old Aisha LYON of Woodstock was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. She is to appear at Stratford Court on November 24, 2015, to answer to this charge.

On Tuesday November 03, 2015, shortly after 7 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer observed a fast moving west bound car on Perth Line 33 south of Shakespeare. The officer activated the police radar and determined that the car was travelling 139 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The car was pulled over and the female driver, 27-year-old Poppy KYPRIANOU of Kitchener was issued a summons for “race a motor vehicle”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. She is to appear at Stratford Court on December 08, 2015, to answer to this charge.

These two drivers had their vehicles towed from the scene and impounded for a period of seven days. They also had their drivers licences suspended for a week.

On Saturday October 31, 2015, shortly after 11 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer stopped a GMC Sierra pickup truck for speeding on Perth Line 32 West of Sebringville.

Just prior to stopping the truck, the officer noticed a bad wobble in the truck’s rear tire and wheel. 20-year-old Michael SMITH, a male resident of the Municipality of West Perth has been charged with speeding and operating an unsafe vehicle. It was determined that this damage had occurred while the truck had been driven off-road. The unsafe vehicle was towed from the scene.
