Police disperse hundreds from Thurman Circle early Monday

LONDON, ON (September 4, 2018) – More than a dozen police officers and members of the Emergency Response Unit were needed to disperse approximately 500 people who poured out of house parties in the area of Thurman Circle and Farnsborough Crescent shortly after 12:00 am on Monday, September 3, 2018.

The initial 9-1-1 caller indicated that approximately 100 people were roaming the area throwing bottles on the street, however, when police arrived several hundred more exited houses. Some began to throw bottles at police and the windshield of one police vehicle was damaged, with an estimated cost of $500.

“It is extremely discouraging that a small group of students have decided to begin the school year by putting our officers and the community at risk to this degree,” said Supt. Chris Newton, head of the Uniformed Division. “Our community deserves greater respect.”

Four people from four different Thurman Circle addresses were issued provincial offence notices for violation of City of London’s Nuisance By-Law, which can result in a fine of up to $10,000.
