“BE THE EYES AND EARS”

An arrest and 26 charges against a daylight break and enter suspect that committed several B&E’s in Huron and Bruce Counties.

Working together, citizens and police can keep our communities safe and secure. The effectiveness of crime prevention is enhanced by being a good neighbour. Get to know your neighbours and encourage them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity around your property.

“Alert and concerned citizens acting as the “eyes and ears” are invaluable to Huron OPP’s efforts to combat crime in our community. Crime prevention is a collaborative effort that takes an active community to be truly effective. Securing your valuables, locking your doors, watching out for your neighbours and reporting suspicious activity will make your neighbourhood a safer place to live” – Huron OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Chris Martin.

What should you do if I see something suspicious or a crime in progress? Safely try to get a description of the vehicle or persons involved and immediately call 911. Do not intervene and attempt to take the law into your own hands! If you decide to confront a criminal in the act of a crime you may be placing yourself at risk to significant injury. As well, you potentially could become the subject of criminal investigation if you overstep your legal rights. Call 911 immediately and continually update police with a description of the events that are unfolding.

If you have information about a crime that is not in progress you are still encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 as your piece of information just might be the piece of information that investigators need to solve a crime.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
