Courtney SALMON – Human Trafficking

Investigators with the York Regional Police Drugs and Vice Unit have charged a 41-year-old man in connection with human trafficking offences.

Police began an investigation in June 2016, regarding a suspected pimp involved in human trafficking and other related offences.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2016 the accused was arrested in the Town of Oakville.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on October 19, 2016.

Members of the Drugs and Vice Unit are continuing their aggressive efforts in combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls. In many cases, women and young girls involved in prostitution are forced into the sex trade through violence, threats of violence, coercion and trickery. York Regional Police considers these women and girls to be victims of crime and we are committed to investigating all incidents relating to human trafficking and providing assistance to victims. Investigators are willing to speak with anyone involved in the sex trade who may be looking for a way out or who may require assistance to escape these dangerous circumstances.
