Brantford Crime Briefs – 27July2016

Type: Arrest- Recovered Stolen Vehicle

Locations: Fairview Drive to Fiddler’s Green Road, Ancaster

Incident: On July 26, 2016 at 2:10pm a plain clothes officer in the north end of Brantford, witnessed a gas drive off from a Fairview Drive Gas bar and began to follow the vehicle. It was soon discovered that the vehicle was recently reported stolen. The stolen vehicle, which had three persons inside, was followed to the Town of Ancaster and began to travel throughout a subdivision in Ancaster. Hamilton Police were able to locate the BPS officer’s location in Ancaster. A tire deflation device was deployed and was successful near Fiddler’s Green Road. The stolen vehicle travelled a short distance before striking a piece of farming equipment in a nearby field. All three occupants fled on foot from the vehicle and within minutes, two were placed under arrest. The driver was eventually located in an irrigation pond and had to be pulled to safety before being arrested, as the driver advised that he could not swim.

A 24 yr old male from Hagersville, a 20 year old male from Ohsweken and a 19 yr old female from Brantford are all facing theft of a vehicle and possession of stolen property charges and are to be appearing for a bail hearing today in Brantford.

Type: Arrest- Drugs and Stolen Property

Locations: Glenwood Drive

Incident: On Tuesday July 26, 2016, at approximately 5:44 PM, a male and female entered a Colborne Street store and were observed stealing two electric hair trimmers. Police were contacted and stopped the vehicle that the couple had left in on Glenwood Drive. The stolen property was recovered and during the search of the male he was found to be in possession of cocaine and a large amount of money

Further investigation revealed that the male was on a recognizance order and on probation. A check on the female, who was driving, revealed that she was a suspended driver. The 28 yr old female from Hagersville stands charged with Theft Under $5,000, Breach of Recognizance, Breach of Probation, Drive Motor vehicle with open container of liquor readily available, and Drive While Under Suspension. The 29 yr old male from Oshweken stands charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime. Both male and female were held for bail for the charges stemming from this incident.

Type: Arrest- Search Warrant : Drugs

Locations: Nelson Street

Incident: On July 26, 2016, at approximately 9:05 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Street Crimes Unit arrested a male and female on Darling Street. After the arrest a search warrant was executed at a Nelson Street address where another female was arrested.

• 3.7 grams of methamphetamine

• 6 x12mg Hydromorph Contin pills

• 2 x 6mg Hydromorph Contin pills

• 1 x 24mg Hydromorph Contin pills

• 12 x 0.5mg clonazepam pills

• 22 x 10mg Methylphenidate pills

• 329 dollars seized

Adult male charged with the following:

• 1 count of Possession of a controlled substance, contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; released on a Promise to Appear

Adult female charged with the following:

• 1 count of Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; released on a Promise to Appear

Adult female charged with the following:

• 4 counts of Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

• 1 count of Trafficking of a controlled substance contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

• 1 count of Proceeds of Crime contrary to section 354(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada; held for bail

Type: Dog on Dog Attack

Locations: Colborne Street West at Shellard’s lane

Incident: Brantford Police and SPCA were contacted regarding a dog on dog attack that occurred on Tuesday July 26, 2016 at approximately 920pm. While a vehicle with its windows down was stopped at the intersection of Colborne Street west and Shellard’s Lane at a stopped red light, the dog in the vehicle jumped out of the stopped vehicle and attacked a dog that was being walked by a female.

Due to the injuries that the dog being walked received it passed away. Police investigated and determined that no criminal investigation was warranted. The SPCA continues to investigate from their end.
