13 & 14 Year Old Facing 15 Counts Mischief Endangering Life

Peterborough County, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been investigating numerous incidents where vehicles have been struck by rocks on the Highway 115 Bypass near Bensfort Road. Since late September 15 vehicles have been reported being stuck by objects at the same location. Some of those vehicles sustained significate damage with rocks being thrown through windshields.

Peterborough County OPP has made exhaustive efforts in attempting to identify suspects. Members of the Peterborough OPP Property Crime Unit led the investigation utilizing Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit and resources form the Technical Support Branch (TSB). In addition, police conducted focused patrols with both uniform and plain clothes officers.

Shortly after 6:00pm yesterday, two youths were interviewed and later arrested for their involvement in the rock throwing incidents on Highway 115.

Two males ages 13 and 14 form Peterborough, ON have been charged with 15 counts of Mischief Endangering Life. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the name of a young person cannot be released.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario on December 12, 2016.
