8:06 am a 22 year old Saugeen Shores male was issued a fine for being intoxicated in a public place near Goderich and James St.
4:53 pm police received a report of a propane tank being stolen from a barbecue along Goderich St.
5:48 pm a 22 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place along Goderich St near McDonalds. He was turned over to his father.

Public works and police continue to deal with individuals who believe it is their right to cut down trees along the shoreline on others or town property. The reason usually given is to create a better view of the lake. Mischief to property is a criminal offence. It would seem that charging someone with a criminal offence would be a drastic measure to take. But, what right does anyone have to cut down trees on property that is not their own, the answer is none. Some feel it is better to do it then beg forgiveness if caught. The trees or branches are down at that time and cannot be replaced.
We are all very aware of our property lines. Should you choose to cut down trees or brush property that is not yours and there are clear grounds to charge with Mischief you will probably be charged. In the end you will probably receive a conviction and a criminal record and restitution to try to replace what you have cut down. No view is worth that.
9:04 am police, fire, ambulance and Union Gas responded to a gas leak along North Shore Road. A private contractor struck a gas line while digging in the yard. Union gas took care of the matter without further incident.
12:57 pm a 40 year old Saugeen Shores woman was charged with breaching conditions of a previous Recognizance release by a Justice.
9:40 pm an unlocked bicycle was stolen from the bike rack at SDSS.

8:49 am police responded to a report of a male masturbating in a black van near the intersections of Gustavus and Kaake St’s in Port Elgin. No further description was given of the person or van and it was not located by police.
2:15 pm police investigated a report of a fraud. This scam is another variation of previous scams. A person posted an ad on INDEED looking for a personal shopper. A person responded to the ad and was sent a cheque for over $2300. She was asked to MoneyGram a $1000 each to two different individuals from California and use the rest to shop the list. A week later the cheque bounced and this person is out $2000.
We encourage people to call police to report these scams so we can warn others. Never send your money to someone you do not know. Many scams involve depositing more money than intended into your account then asking you to be honest and send them the money back or some amount of it. This request is done before the cheque bounces. These scams continue because they make money from innocent and honest people.
If you feel you are being scammed or are about to pay money, cash or otherwise to someone you do not know, ask a friend, call police, talk to your relatives do not part with your hard earned money.

6:17 am police responded to a report of broken lights on the roadway along Arlington St. The entrance gate lights had been broken to the units at 954, 914 and 874 Arlington.
10:20 am police attended to the area Mohawk, Pottawottami, Ottawa and Copway streets in Southampton to reports of personalized fire route numbers being stolen.
11:21 am police received a report of a male acting suspiciously behind 579 Goderich St. Police responded and located the male and are investigating him for trafficking in a controlled substance.
8:40 pm police received a report of tools being stolen from an unlocked shed in Southampton. The tools included two Rigid Cordless drills and a Rigid cordless sander.
10:10 am an intoxicated male became impatient at a Southampton restaurant and started yelling at staff. The person left but not before pulling the fire alarm as he left. The male was located and arrested and charged with False fire alarm, Mischief and Causing a Disturbance while being drunk. The Toronto man was held in the cells until sober.

12:06 am it was reported to police that a male was passed out on Wellington St. Police attended and found a 40 year old Floradale man passed out and he was turned over to his brother in law.
5:43 pm a bicycle was reportedly stolen from Port Elgin, it was unlocked.
It is that time of year again to turn our thoughts to water safety. Lake Huron is a powerful body of water. Make sure you watch your children at all times while around the water. If they need to wear a life jacket while swimming do so. While in any watercraft wear your life jackets. Sitting on a life jacket is not really that comfortable and if you hit your head on the way into the water it will do you no good.
