North Perth to Purchase Listowel Central and Wallace Public Schools

North Perth, ON, July 18, 2016 – The Municipality of North Perth has recently purchased Listowel Central Public School and Wallace Public School from the Avon Maitland District School Board. The Avon Maitland District School Board follows a process for the sale of surplus property. The School Board must give notice to a number of agencies, including other school boards and the property’s home municipality. If there is no interest in the surplus property, the Board has historically chosen to dispose of the property via public auction.

The Municipality of North Perth decided to purchase the properties in order to control planning processes and ensure future plans and/or uses of the decommissioned schools and their properties end up as the best use for the community. The Municipality does not have any current plans for the future use of the properties. The Municipality will be looking into what is the best use of the land from a community perspective in the near future.

The closing date for the purchase of the schools is September 15, 2016. Listowel Central Public School and Wallace Public School closed at the end of the 2015-16 school year. Kindergarten to Grade 8 students from Listowel Central and Wallace Public Schools will attend the new North Perth Westfield Elementary School, located west of Listowel, in September 2016.
