Guelph Police Daily News Release 12July2018

On July 11, 2018 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Guelph Police were out on foot patrol at the corner of Norfolk Street and MacDonell Street looking for distracted drivers. In a span of one hour, police issued six distracted driving tickets and one seatbelt ticket.

Guelph Police would like to remind the public about the dangers of texting and driving. One person is injured in a distracted driving collision every half hour. Also, a driver using a phone is four times more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road. A distracted driving ticket comes with a fine of $490 and three demerit points.

Impaired Driving – Arrest

On July 11, 2018 at approximately 8:09 p.m., Guelph Police were alerted by the public about a possible impaired driver in the area of London Road and Woolwich Street. The vehicle was observed going through a red light, almost striking a pole, and then was involved in a collision with another vehicle.

Police attended to the collision and spoke with the male driver. After speaking with the male, he was arrested for Impaired Driving. The male was further charged with Over 80.

Paul CLAIR, a 60 year old Guelph male, is scheduled to appear in court on July 24, 2018.

Wanted Person – Arrest

On July 12, 2018 at approximately 2:00 a.m., Guelph Police were called to the area of Woolwich Street and Wyndham Street in regard to a report of males going through bins behind a residential building.

Police attended to the area and located two males. Through investigation, it was learned that one of the males was wanted. As a result, a 19 year old Guelph male was arrested on the strength of the warrant. The male is scheduled to appear in court on July 12, 2018.

In the last 24 hours, Guelph Police dealt with 212 calls for service.
