Driver Arrested After Ditching Vehicle & Landing On Railway Track

(HARTY, ON) – A commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver has been charged for dangerous driving, after crossing a live lane into a ditch, and landing a railway track.

On March 4, 2024, shortly before 1:00 a.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call of a CMV in the ditch and obstructing a railway track along Highway 11 in Harty.

Police attended the scene, and an investigation revealed that the CMV had been travelling westbound on a clear and dry highway, when it crossed the east bound lane, into the east bound ditch and landed on the railway track. There were no injuries to either driver or passenger, and a call was placed to the Ontario Northland Rail to avoid a potential train collision.

As a result of the investigation, Parmveer GAHIR, 31 years of age of Brampton, was charged with the criminal offence of dangerous operation.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on March 18, 2024 in Kapuskasing.
