Correction:
8:50 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Waterloo and Gustavus St. A vehicle was eastbound on Gustavus Street and stopped at the stop sign and proceeded striking a vehicle that was northbound on Waterloo Street. The driver of the northbound vehicle received lacerations to her face and arm and was taken to hospital. Both vehicles had severe damage and had to be towed from the scene.
A previous media release incorrectly stated that the driver of the northbound vehicle disobeyed the stop sign. Saugeen Shores Police Service apologizes for this error.
4:14 pm a vehicle parked at Canadian Tire and at Walmart had the paint keyed.
13 June 2017,
Between 6:36 and 7:53 am police responded to several reports of wires down in the McVicar Drive, Fenton Drive and Saugeen Beach Road areas.
14 June 2017,
1:19 am police responded to a report of two males with flashlights in the Ottawa Ave area of Southampton. The males were reported to have knapsacks. Police were unable to locate the males. Please make sure you don’t leave valuables in your vehicle and lock it.
2:13 am police observed a traffic sign that had been bent over at Waterloo and Johnston Ave in Port Elgin. Please keep in mind the danger you could put someone in if you removed a traffic sign.
7:13 am a vehicle was reported to have been entered on Breadalbane St and change was taken.
8:55 am a vehicle was reported to have been entered on Chantryview, a purse and contents were stolen.
9:45 am another vehicle was reported to have been entered on Breadalbane and a GPS was stolen.
2:12 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at County Rd 3 and Bartley Side road. A vehicle was reversing on Bartley Side road and was struck by another vehicle east on County Rd 3. No injuries. The driver of the reversing vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield.
15 June 2017,
10:36 am police investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from Wellington St. Investigation revealed that a person known to the owner had taken the vehicle without consent. Police are investigating.
11:14 am police investigated a fraud involving the sale of a guitar over Kijiji. A person put their guitar up for sale on Kijiji. Another person offered to buy it for $850 and further wanted to send $2000 for shipping. A cheque was sent for $2850 to the owner who deposited it in the bank then sent an e-transfer of $2000 to the account of the supposed shipping company. The cheque bounced. Police are investigating.
5:40 pm police responded to a residence to a report of an unwanted male. The male left after police arrival.
16 June 2017,
12:18 am police responded to a report of an assault. After investigation a 35 year old female was charged with assault.
7:48 am police responded to the Chesley St boat launch to a report of boats being entered. In all 5 boats were entered and various fishing and boating items were stolen from the boats. Anyone with any information on this matter is asked to call police 519-832-2500 or Crimestoppers 1- 800 222- 8477
10:18 am a 35 year old Port Elgin man was arrested for breaching his Recognizance conditions, possession of cocaine and held for a bail hearing.
17 June 2017,
12:01 am, a police cruiser was travelling on County 25 between County 33 and Hwy 21 and struck a deer. The police vehicle was taken out of service as it received approximately $3,500 in damage.
7:35 am several windows were broken at a vacant building in Southampton.
4:33 pm police attended to an assault complaint. After investigation no charges were laid.
6:19 pm police responded to a large hole in the road at Market and Shantz. Public works attended and took care of the problem.
18 June 2017,
7:47 am police attended to an assault complaint. After investigation a 36 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested and charged with assault, resist arrest, assault with a weapon and breach of probation.
11:49 pm sometime between 14 and 16 June someone tried to pry the doors open on two vehicles in Port Elgin. No entry was gained but the doors were damaged.
4:22 pm police attended to the Southampton Beach area to a windsurfer in distress 150 meters off shore. Coastguard Auxiliary and ambulance were dispatched. The male made it to shore and wanted no assistance.
7:46 pm police received a tip that that a possible impaired man was trying to locate his vehicle in Macgregor Park. Police attended and found the person driving a vehicle. The man failed the roadside breath screening and was taken to the station for breath tests. At the station the male provided breath readings of 110 mgms and 90 mgms, the legal limit is 80 mgms. A 70 year old Florence man was charged with Drive over 80 mgms, he received a 90 day ADLS driver’s licence suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
School is about to be over for the summer. That means there will be plenty of people of all ages walking and riding bicycles. Please take extra care and caution when driving. Always check your passenger mirror before turning right. Drive defensively and be courteous. As always be safe.
