Teens Send 2 Police Officers To Hospital With Serious Injuries

(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police West Criminal Investigations Unit has charged three young persons following a stolen vehicle investigation that left two officers with serious injuries.

At approximately 11:15 pm on March 29, officers observed a vehicle that had been reported stolen traveling near Woodfield Drive and Merivale Road.

As more officers arrived in the area, the suspect vehicle accelerated to avoid police, however ended up striking a police cruiser head-on. Both officers from the vehicle sustained serious injuries and have since been released from hospital.

Three young persons (who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act)were charged with several criminal offences:

Driver:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime;
  • Operation (of a vehicle) causing bodily harm;
  • Breach of probation;
  • Flight from police;
  • Obstruction;
  • Assault peace officer; and
  • Assault peace officer and wound/maim/disfigure or endanger life.

Passenger 1:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • Failure to comply with release order.

Passenger 2:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime.

Both passengers are set to appear in court at a later date; and the driver is to appear in court today.
