Wingham Wipeout In Front Of Police Ends With Drunk Driving Charge- Name Released

(WINGHAM, ON) – A resident of Wingham is facing a criminal charge of Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus following an incident that took place in Wingham.

On December 4, 2020 at approximately 12:20 a.m. two Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were parked at the fire hall in Wingham when they observed a male driving a mini dirt bike northbound on Josephine Street. While watching the driver, officers observed him lose control of the dirt bike to the point he laid the bike down and skidded on the pavement.

The driver then got up and tried to get back on his dirt bike but by then officers had intercepted the driver. Upon speaking with the driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver. A roadside test was administered and the driver registered a fail on the approved screening device.

He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment in Clinton. He later provided two samples of breath to the Intoxilizer Technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Michael WHITELOCK, 32 years of age from Wingham has been charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) 80 Plus. He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for January 18, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
