Face Slashed With Broken Bottle – One Arrested

Woman charged with aggravated assault

A Guelph woman faces an aggravated assault charge after a man was slashed in the face with a broken bottle.

Just after 9 a.m. Monday police received several 911 calls about an injured male near the intersection of Waterloo Avenue and Edinburgh Road South. Officers located an adult male with a significant laceration to his nose and lip. The male refused to provide information, claiming he had fallen.

Officers followed a blood trail and discovered a broken glass bottle with blood on it. The male was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Through further investigation, officers determined he had been kicked in the abdomen and slashed across the face with a broken bottle by a female known to him.

A 28-year-old Guelph woman is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. She is in custody on unrelated charges and will next appear in court Thursday.

$10k in metal stolen from business

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after more than $10,000 worth of metal products were stolen from an east-end business.

Tuesday morning, staff of a business near Watson Road South and Airpark Place called to report two separate thefts in recent days, during which 875 steel hoops were stolen from outside the business.

Surveillance video showed three suspects arriving just after 3 p.m. Saturday in a maroon four-door Ford F350 which had a wooden pallet in place of the tailgate. The truck backed up to a loading dock, where items were loaded into the bed and the suspects left the area. Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, a similar truck as well as a white Chevrolet or GMC pickup arrived and parked in the same area. Three suspects loaded the vehicles and again left the area.

Bike stolen during downtown break-in

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a high-end bicycle was stolen during a break-in to a downtown shed.

Tuesday morning police were called to a home near Oxford Street and Glasgow Street North. Surveillance video showed a male checking car doors in the laneway behind the complainant’s home just before midnight Sunday. The suspect then hopped a fence into the complainant’s backyard, entered the shed and stole an orange Kona Precept downhill mountain bike.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing a red Florida Panthers hockey jersey over a hoody, dark pants, white and black running shoes and a black toque with white writing. He also had a small black shoulder bag.
