OPP Police Press Releases South Huron

ALERT: Police Evacuate Main Street

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Residents and business owners have seen an increased presence in the Town of Exeter, South Huron while the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) deal with an ongoing police investigation.

John Street and Main Street South have sections that are closed to the motoring public. John Street is closed between Andrew Street and Main Street South. Additionally, Main Street South is closed between Huron Street and Wellington Street. Motorists and residents are asked to respect the closures and avoid the incident area. Commercial truck traffic will need to plan ahead if attempting to travel into or through the Town of Exeter. Alternate truck routes around Exeter include Morrison Line and Airport Line.

Due to the location of the police incident, businesses and residences located between Sanders Street and Anne Street have been evacuated to allow police to operate safely. Individuals that cannot depart their residences or choose to stay at home are being asked to shelter in place to avoid unintentional interruption of the police investigation.

An evacuation centre has been established at the South Huron Recreation Centre located at 94 Victoria Street East.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be shared by the OPP as they become available.
