On August 5th, police were on general patrol east bound on County Road 20, North Grenville when a SUV passed the officer at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit. The officer activated the emergency lights and siren in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not pull over and instead increased its speed in excess of 170 km/h in an 80 km zone.
The officer continued to follow the SUV for over 10 kilometres until it became lodged in the mud on Saunders Trail. The driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested and transported to Kemptville OPP detachment. William John Vandine, age 44 of Ottawa was charged with impaired driving, driving a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol, flight from police and racing. The accused is scheduled to appear in Kemptville Court on September 4th, 2013.
