Tractor Trailer Vs Pickup Truck – One Extricated

At approximately 4:15pm on May 25th, 2015, Peterborough County OPP responded to a 4 motor vehicle accident on County Road 23 in the Township of Selwyn. A southbound pick up truck had slowed to turn eastbound onto Birchbend Road when it was struck from behind by a tractor trailer. The impact forced the pick up into the northbound lanes where it was struck by two northbound vehicles. As a result, the driver of the lead northbound vehicle required extrication by the jaws of life.

The road was closed for approximately 3 hours. The driver of the northbound vehicle was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre with serious but non life threatening injuries. Assistance at the scene was provided by the Selwyn Fire Department and the Curve Lake Annishanabek Police Service.

Subsequently, the driver of the tractor trailer; Frederick Todd, 55 years of age, of Campbellford,Ontario was charged with Section 158(2) of the Highway Traffic Act – Commercial Motor Vehicle – Follow Too Closely””
