TRACTOR TRAILER TIRE BLOWOUT SLOWS

(ELGIN COUNTY, ON) – Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating an incident involving a tractor trailer that lost control after a tire blew causing the trailer to block one lane of traffic, which occurred on Highway 401 Eastbound just west of Furnival Road, Municipality of West Elgin. The incident occurred at approximately 2:42 pm and slowed traffic on the 401 eastbound lanes for several hours.

At the time of the incident a Mac Tractor Trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 401 when the front passenger tire on the cab blew causing the driver to lose control of the Tractor Trailer. Witnesses say ‘the driver did everything he could to keep the vehicle on the roadway, avoiding any further serious collisions’. The Tractor Trailer ended up in the south ditch causing the trailer to block one of the lanes of traffic.

The driver and lone occupant of the tractor trailer, a 36 year old Cambridge, ON. man was not injured as a result of the incident.

At this point a cause for tire blowout has not yet been determined but speed and weather are not suspected to be factors.

Traffic is currently being slowed and allowed through the one open lane. The lane is anticipated to remain closed until approximately 6:30 pm to facilitate the clean-up of the incident.
