The Real Truth On Just How Transparent The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry Really Is!

I am sure there are those out there in the community who like myself have grown up listening to government officials claiming openness and accountability are of the utmost importance here in Canada.

While doing some research I came across Government of Canada website (https://www.canada.ca/en/transparency/open.html). The opening sentence on the site is:

“Open Government is about greater openness and accountability, strengthening democracy and driving innovation and economic opportunities for all Canadians.”

Things like “openness” (transparency) and “accountability” are found in most if not all of the legislation, acts, Constitution, regulations, etc passed by all levels of Government.

So if all levels of Government pass these rules and regurgitate terms like “openness” and “accountability” throughout, one would think it would be safe to assume that there is a strict adherence to these 2 terms, right? Wrong! I am not saying that all levels of Government break these rules on an ongoing basis or even at all but in my experience there are those (levels of Government) who pick and choose when to adhere to the rules and when to break them.

The Municipality of Morris-Turnberry is one such level of Government who is constantly breaking the rules they themselves ram down our throats and expect us to follow to a T.

That raises another question; being a Government Official, employee or agent should they not hold themselves to a higher standard than those whom reside within their area of power? Personally I believe they should, the moment they swear the Oath they are required to take, they are in turn making a commitment to uphold said Oath right down to the last period.

So why is it then they don’t seem to bat an eye in breaking the rules? Likely because they assume the public doesn’t know their rights, and trust me there are A LOT of rights we have! BUT unless we educate ourselves on those rights and then force the “powers that b” to adhere to them, we continue to allow this misuse of power – often at our expense, not theirs.

If I were to write down all of MY rights or others rights I have witnessed being violated or even Government officials who have broken the laws, I would have to write a novel.

Instead I will give you just a couple of examples and provide you with an entire string of correspondence I received just today with various violations being done to me.

One big violation of my rights and the breaking of several Government rules happened a few years ago. An agent of the township I currently reside in came to my property, said agent to me smelt of alcohol. Not knowing my full rights at the time I took my complaint to the township office and told the administrative clerk what had happened and that I suspected an agent of the municipality was under the influence of alcohol. You would think a matter of this nature would have been dealt with the police being called and a report being made or at the least a report made with the administrative clerk and my name kept confidential – WRONG

The AC (for short) informed me they were going to call the agent while I was in the office, to which I said no I do not want to speak with them. The AC ignored my request and called the agent while I was there (with a witness) and told the agent that I (my full legal name was given) was there and that I believed they were under the influence of alcohol. This breach of confidentiality on the AC’s part violates several laws, acts, regulations not only at a municipal level but also Provincial and Federal.

Sadly time has passed to force accountability for this major violation of my rights but I refuse to allow Morris-Turnberry to violate any more of my rights. I also refuse to turn away when I witness a municipal employee, official or agent violating any rights. I will no longer be a sheep and follow the herd.

The Municipality and other Governments work for US we do NOT work for them. We pay their wages, so we need to make sure that they are fulfilling their obligations to us, the taxpayers

The past couple of days I received correspondence’s from both the Municipality.as well as their legal representative in regards to several requests I made for documents they (the municipality) have in their custody. On the last correspondence I received this evening (July 13, 2016 at 6:10PM) it simply said:

“Mrs. Wick, I have responded on behalf of the Municipality. Neither I nor the Municipality intend to respond any further.

Gregory F. Stewart

DONNELLY MURPHY LAWYERS

Professional Corporation”

Instead of me writing about what the correspondences where about, and what documents I requested, I believe it is better for you, the reader, to read those correspondences for yourself, unaltered, from both sides.

After you read them in their entirety ask yourself this simple question, does what the Government of Canada’s website state at the very top, hold true in this case? Was “Open Government is about greater openness and accountability,

strengthening democracy and driving innovation and economic opportunities for all Canadians.” Upheld?
