(ERIN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with assistance from the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) team is currently investigating a single motor vehicle collision which occurred at 2:36 p.m. on July 4, 2014.
Wellington County OPP officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Wellington County Road 124 when they observed a white Chevrolet Avalanche traveling eastbound at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the motor vehicle but the vehicle lost control, struck a stop sign and entered the ditch at County Road 124 and 6th Line.
The lone occupant, a 48 year old Erin Township male, was transported by Guelph- Wellington Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Wellington County Road 124 is closed from 5th Line to Trafalgar Road while the investigation is ongoing.
The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to the SIU Communications at 1-416-622-2342.
